Your Career

Whether you are an experienced professional or a young student it’s never too early nor too late to think about CERN for your career development.

A few months as a student…

Each year CERN takes on hundreds of students through its Summer, Admin, Technical & Doctoral student programmes. As a student you will be exposed to an amazing array of challenges, an international team and excellent training possibilities. The experience gained at CERN can be used to catapult your future career.

A couple of years as a graduate…

CERN takes on over one hundred graduates and post-graduates in its Fellowship & Graduate Engineering Training schemes as well as Marie-Curie fellowships. Spending two to three years in such a high-tech  environment, working in an international environment and having access to  first class training opportunities is a real way of truly kick-starting your career.

Five years as a staff member…

Staff contracts are offered for a non-renewable, maximum five-year duration. If you join CERN and live abroad we may help you with International, installation and travel indeminities; you will also benefit from a world-wide health insurance scheme and the CERN pension scheme. A staff position at CERN is a great place to take your career to new horizons...

And beyond...

Everybody who starts at CERN starts on a limited-duration (usually 5 years) contract. However today around 2/3rds of CERN staff are on an indefinite contract. Once you have successfully passed your probation period you are eligible to apply for an indefinite contract should one be opened in your field. Approximately half of the staff on a limited duration contract go on to further their career at CERN whilst the other half bring back their knowledge & experience to further their career elsewhere.
