Website Manager in the International Relations Unit, Education, Communications and Outreach group (IR-ECO).
The Education, Communications and Outreach Group at CERN is mandated to generate public engagement in science, to produce and distribute information, to foster community building and to build support for CERN and its missions. The Organization's website is a key communications channel for the following audiences: decision makers, the media, the worldwide particle physics community, school students and teachers, CERN personnel, visitors, the local community and the general public.
As Website Manager, you will oversee the operation and evolution of the home CERN website and key related properties such as the press office website and the directory. Working with web infrastructure teams in the CERN IT department, content creation teams in the CERN Education, Communications and Outreach group and external design and development partners. You will:
- Develop the web design by leading an iterative, research-based design process to maintain an attractive, appealing website that reaches the target audiences.
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the CERN website, including coding the site and adding new features and content.
- Conduct regular quantitative and qualitative research to ensure the website is meeting the needs of its users.
- Ensure the website supports the communication group's editorial processes.
- Develop microsites to support specific campaigns, projects and events.
- Develop and maintain documentation for developers and content contributors.
- Support the development and maintenance of the websites and the web development community at CERN.
- Act as the technical lead and liaison for the Education, Communications and Outreach group.
Master's degree in the field of computer technology and website design, or equivalent.
The experience required for this post is:
- Demonstrated experience in development and maintenance of websites and web infrastructures.
- Demonstrated experience in working as part of a development team using processes such as agile.
- Initial experience in technically supervising and coordinating personnel.
The technical competencies required for this post are:
- Programming/Software development: knowledge of lamp stack, and of open source software development, including drupal; use of code repositories, including git.
- Information content authoring: knowledge of basic web technologies.
The behavioural competencies required for this post are:
- Achieving results: dividing extensive work/projects into manageable sub-tasks with clearly defined milestones.
- Solving problems: being open to original ideas and creative options by which to address issues; continually driving change by seeking new ways to improve outcomes.
- Communicating effectively: expressing opinions, ideas and suggestions with conviction and in a logical/structured manner; keeping to the point.
The language competencies required are:
- Spoken and written English and French: ability to understand and speak both languages in professional contexts as well as the ability to draft texts for publications and/ or official communications and to make oral presentations in both languages.
