"Everyone’s path is different, and that’s good!": Meet Vilde, from Norway

Hi there, I’m Vilde from Norway, and I’d like to share the story of how I ended up at CERN, and how my life has changed because of it.

The first thing I think it’s important to remember is that everyone’s path is different, and that’s good! There is no general recipe for reaching a goal. The only approach that will make you happy in the end is finding what truly motivates you, being honest with yourself and others, and to make sure you’re doing it for the right reasons.

Working at CERN is a unique and fantastic adventure.

Meet Mary, software engineer on the CERN graduate "fellowship" programme. Inspired? Take part. Fine out more here.

Hi Mary, Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?

Hello, I'm Mary, and I work as a fellow software engineer for the Authorization and Authentication Team. I come from Athens, Greece, and I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree from the Department of Informatics of Athens University of Economics and Business.

CERN is one of the few places in the world where I can really work on demanding and exciting IT projects.

Hello Emil! Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN.

I come from Warsaw, Poland where I obtained my MSc diploma in Computer Science from Warsaw University of Technology. My curiosity about software engineering and physics brought me to CERN where I started as a Summer Student soon after my student exchange in Delft, Netherlands, back in 2016. Later on, I got a chance to continue my journey in the organization as a full-stack web developer, building applications for the accelerator sector and for managing various assets.

From the water treatment industry to RF systems at CERN: discover Abigail's journey on the CERN Technician Training Experience.

Hi Abigail, Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?

Hi, I’m Abigail, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Warrington, a town in the North-West of England. I started my journey at CERN in July 2020. Before I started at CERN I was an Apprentice Engineer in the UK water treatment industry, focusing on design. I had previously visited CERN in January 2017 on a college trip but never imagined I would one day work here.  I knew of CERN and the work that is done here but always imagined staff would require university degrees and years of relevant experience.

"You only fail when you stop trying": wise advice from Bharti, CERN fellow from India

Hello Bharti, tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?

My name is Bharti Verma and I am a chemical engineer. I have recently joined CERN as a fellow. I completed my PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India where I worked on the application of nanotechnology in the treatment of wastewater. A part of my Ph.D. work was executed in one of the leading companies of India.

"it is an amazing opportunity in life without any doubt!": meet Ester, RF technician at CERN.

Hi Ester, Tell us a little about yourself and what brought you to CERN?

I found out about CERN when I was a student and I was only 20 years old, living in Valladolid, Spain.
I did not know the Organization: it was all completely new for me, and a friend told me about the Technician Training Experience (TTE) fellowship program.
I thought: this sounds really impossible and difficult for me ... but ok let’s try!

" I have worked with a lot of different equipment and really been able to delve into their construction and operation": meet Ellen, electromechanical technician at CERN.

If this story inspires you check out our opportunities for students, graduates and professionals in a variety of technical disciplines, and take part!

Hi Ellen, tell us about yourself and what brought you to CERN.

Hi! My name is Ellen Milne, and I am from sunny Scotland! I worked in the Oil and Gas Industry in Scotland before joining CERN.

"Never say never. Even if you think your profession has no place here, you might be surprised": meet Jonas, Technician trainee at CERN.

CERN has attractive opportunities for newly qualified technicians to experience work at the cutting edge of technology, across all technical disciplines including system administration, work supervision, mechanics, electronics, radiation protection, computing and many more... as well as media design: read Jonas' story for inspiration, and take part: join the Technician Training Experience.

"There is truly no other place like CERN": meet Line, microelectronics student at the University of Oslo

Meet Line, a technical student from Norway currently working on CERN's ISOLDE experiment. If you're inspired, why not "chase the dream" as Line says? Take part and apply now.

Hi line, tell us a little bit a about yourself and what brought you to CERN.

My name is Line Le, and I am a microelectronics student at the University of Oslo.
